The Venice Englewood Chapter hosted a banquet at the Venice Yacht Club drawing over 150 hunters and businessmen. An estimated $15,000 was raised through ticket sales for waterfowl breeding ground preservation and rehabilitation efforts.

Ducks Unlimited highlights its 1937 founding to restore waterfowl habitat in Canada noting over 2000 wetland projects and 163 million raised in 45 years with 80 percent of funds spent on project work.
The Venice Area YMCA Aquatic Club and South County YMCA sponsor a bicycle sale on November 6 at the YMCA on Center Road. Bikes go on sale at 10 a.m. followed by the Y Boat Auction at 11 a.m. Donations of bikes motorcycles or any wheeled items are invited via contact 488 9688.
The South County YMCA announces adult tennis classes beginners and intermediate on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Morning fitness classes boost cardio and toning on Wednesday and Friday mornings. KinderGym for ages 3 to 5 starts Oct 19 with balance and tumbling. Gymnastics I and II for ages 6 and up run Tuesdays and Thursdays with eight-wk sessions. Yoga classes begin Oct 28 led by Jean Newman. Judo for ages 6-16 and adults covers throws and holds with a structured scoring system.
Beginner and experienced participants may join open class periods taught by Jim Lasswell. Lasswell previously taught at Venice Judo Inc. and the Parris Island Judo Club in South Carolina. YMCA pool hours October: Mon–Fri 10am6pm, Sat noon4pm, closed Sundays. Hours subject to change with attendance.
Venice Hospital hosts the Fourth Annual Ladies Charity Golf Tournament at Mission Valley Golf and Country Club on Monday November 8 with host pro Phil Darbyshire. Entries cap at 144, fee 75 dollars includes golf carts luncheon and prizes. Six flights eight prize set plus putter prizes and hole in one bond prize potential. Registration at 8, shotgun start at 9 with 18 holes and open bar at 2.
The Suncoast Kiwanis Club sponsors a golf tournament at Plantation Golf and Country Club on Saturday November 6 with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Foursomes or individuals may sign up through Terry Ryder or Mick Horlick. Scoring uses the Calloway system. donation is 30 dollars including greens fee cart refreshments and buffet.

In the BLUE LEAGUE Southern Springs & Stamping edged Kentucky Fried Chicken 5 to 4, Soul’s Harbor beat Hatten Electric 7 to 0, Jack’s Place topped Strathmore Realty 12 to 8, Southland Oil won 7 to 6 over O’Henry’s Pub, Caliin Inn trounced Signs by Carl 16 to 1, and Bates File Company beat Lemonde Surveying 19 to 3.
