In the past the Council had been on record As opposing paying the Airport for the use of land where the sewer treatment Plant and Chuck Reiter Field now sit because the Cost would be councilman . A a Berry Walker said he thought the City should try to figure out a every conceivable non monetary return the Airport is now receiving so it can be deducted from the rent. But he concluded that a when we discover what we Stilt owe we will have to face that expenditure. We Are going to have to use a very Sharp Pencil before we come up with an when Case and Freeman objected to admitting to the Federal aviation administration Faa that the City should even consider paying for the land it is using Walker said a i had hoped that it would come out to a Wash or close to City administrator Dale Rieth said the a fair Market value return on the property which the Faa has mandated could be calculated based on the value of the property at the time the improvements were made plus a Cost of living escalator figured in for the time that has passed since the improvements. He explained that the lease with the Ringling Bros and Barnum amp Bailey circus was figured in this manner and has been approved by the Faa. Case leaned on the argument that the land belongs to the City but continued to ignore the provisions in the deed which say that any non aviation use of Airport property must return to the Airport an amount equal to the fair Market value. I think that land is Case suggested ignoring the Faa and seeing what would Veteran s Day services planned the Venice area veterans Council will sponsor the annual veterans Day services on Friday nov. 11. The Observance will open with services at 10 30 . At the downtown veterans memorial then move to the new Park at the West end of Venice Avenue for the remainder of the program. Stanley Guggenheim of North port jewish War veterans is chairman of the services in which area veterans organizations and their auxiliaries will be participating. No Vel american legion Post and its auxiliary Venice world War i Barracks and auxiliary Tamami Post 8118 veterans of foreign wars and auxiliary and Gulf chapter disabled american veterans will join in the Observance. Tamami vow Post and its auxiliary will observe veterans Day at the Post Home at 832 East Venice ave., followed by the Early Bird dinner from 6-8 . American legion no Vel Post and its auxiliary will have a members Observance at its Post Home 145 East Venice ave. This will be followed by an Early Bird dinner from 6 30-8 30 . Lemon Bay Post 276, its auxiliary world War i Barracks and auxiliary and the retired officers association have joined in planning the annual Observance of the War dead at the american legion Hall on South happen next. But Rieth explained that he had been informed that if the City did not comply with the terms of the deed and the Airport fell into disrepair the Federal government would simply come in and auction off the land. Freeman agreed with the mayor however and said the Airport would essentially become a Burden to the taxpayers if the City had to pay for the land it is now using. Case suggested that the City attempt to enlist the Aid of state and Federal elected representatives for help.
