Tarpon Center Villas owners contest a long term lease on a canal dock claiming it is unlawful recreation land rent. They cite Florida law banning escalation clauses and unconscionable terms, noting total payments could reach about 882000 over 89 years. Most unit owners signed the lease at purchase.
City outlined ongoing sewer supply issues as delays in adding new lines and a postponed county treatment plant push service beyond 2000. The county plant would serve Venice east of the Intracoastal Waterway, freeing the west side for the Venice plant and triggering annexations as residents shift from septic tanks to city lines.
A South County Family YMCA outreach event last weekend added 200 names to the roster with 100 more memberships hoped for in the coming months. Morell Brewster 86 retired attorney of 307 Mantua Venice Isle Mobile Estates died May 9 1979 in Syracuse New York. He moved to Venice in 1973 from Skaneateles and had returned there for summers. He is survived by wife Margaret two daughters Jean Bishop Priscilla Derrenbacker nine grandchildren and two great grandsons. Private services held May 12 in Syracuse on the couple’s 57th wedding anniversary.
