Domestic disturbance ends with shots and deputy bite
In South Venice a 3:30 a.m. call led to deputies confronting 47 year old Robert Paul Offer at 604 Briarwood Road. Offer was arrested and charged with disorderly intoxication resisting arrest with violence and assault on a police officer after biting Sgt. William Sullivan, who was treated at Venice Hospital Emergency Room for a left arm wound and tetanus shot. Mary Smith, resident, reported Offer had returned intoxicated and threatened to shoot her if she did not leave. A seven year old girl was inside the home during the incident.

Dangerous chemical disposal alert issued by Sheriff
Residents with dangerous chemicals are urged to call 366-1811 for safe disposal per Sheriff Jim Hardcastle. A south county resident reported picric acid that crystallized and became unstable and possibly explosive. Three-fourths gallon in a glass container was handled by ordinance control technicians with help from Sarasota County Police and the Bomb Disposal Unit.
