Mayor Harry E. Case will proclaim Thursday, June 5 as Walter Farley Night in Venice to coincide with the premiere of The Black Stallion based on Farley’s book. Farley, a Venice author, will attend as the film plays at Woolco Twin Theaters with a 6:30 p.m. kids show and 9 p.m. adults show before regular runs begin June 6.
Following a planning commission recommendation the Venice City Council gave conceptual approval Tuesday to Park Place a 16 acre east Venice commercial development by Towsley-Ward Investments. The plan includes a nine story hotel restaurant drive in banking facility stores offices medical labs and professional center on U S 41 Bypass and East Venice Avenue around an existing service station. Hatchett Creek drainage canal will be cleaned and remain as an attraction with foot bridges and a canal side patio for arts crafts shows and concerts. The plan has evolved since its January presentation with changes to the professional buildings.
