Venice plan fights for LORAN site preservation
The City of Venice Comprehensive Plan targets the LORAN area for coastal vegetation and sand dune protection. The University of Sarasota proposed a research and environmental study center with a single 18 to 20 foot building and parking for 50. Venice aims to keep the land as natural habitat while SWFRPC recommends city acquisition from the federal government. Eastwood notes a similar Coast Guard site on SanibelIsland with a delayed federal decision after abandonment.
