Venice Eyes Grand Plan for City Bicycle Network
Norman Van Zandt of the City Parks and Recreation Board outlined a comprehensive bicycle path network for Venice calling it a grandiose plan. He noted state funding of 1 million dollars for bike paths next year and 258 thousand for the district including Sarasota County and 13 other counties. The Venice plan targets East Venice Avenue and ties with sidewalks for a connected system, while SMATS studies and the MPO survey inform where paths are needed.
