Venice Delegation Presses for State Funding in Tallahassee
About 30 members of the Venice Area Chamber of Commerce and the Sarasota County Committee of 100 visited Tallahassee to lobby for funding for a South Campus of Manatee Junior College near Venice and for higher road and bridge spending. They highlighted a proposed one cent sales tax and gas tax increases to raise hundreds of millions for state and local projects, while acknowledging DOT limits. The group pledged to return, saying the visit was an education in reform and funding needs.
