Happiness House marks 35 years aiding handicapped in Manatee Sarasota
Happiness House celebrated its 35th year helping handicapped residents of Manatee and Sarasota Counties at a dinner dance at Sara Bay Country Club. E. Paul Hansen presided, with co-chairs Mrs. Marvin A. Franch and Mrs. Dan G. Judge Jr. and Venice’s Mrs. Barney York in charge of decorations. Founded in 1946 as the Sarasota Manatee Crippled Children's Clinic, the center expanded through the years, moving to 401 Braden Avenue in 1958 and adding wings and therapy services. The Venice Area Garden Club landscaping project began this month, and new programs in independent living skills and development disabilities were instituted in 1980. The Easterseals Society and United Way fund ongoing services, with a no-one-turned-away policy. Norman W. Paget serves as executive director.
