Sun Coast Gondolier (Newspaper) - March 6, 1980, Venice, Florida4-. Sun coast gondolier Venice Florido thursday March 6, 1980 Luckley addresses commissioners although both sides claimed non partisanship it was evident politics played a part in tuesdays county commission discussion concerning political arties using county facilities. The matter came about due to recent hassle Between the commissioners and the democratic executive committee Over the use of the Venice Community Center by the Democrat group. The commissioners eventually voted to approve the use of the Center but were not in agreement As to whether they would Ever do so in the future. Because of the possibility of such a denial in the future John r. Buckley chairman of the steering committee of the democratic executive committee of Sarasota county appeared before the Board requesting that All county facilities should be available to All groups including s3e elected officials of both major sese tical parties. is not a a disease Quot a Buckley told the commissioners. A to is an american institution. It should be revered and encouraged a not demeaned John r. Buckley Buckley went on to say that elected officials should be provided a place to meet a whether they be county commissioners precinct committee persons or such persons he said should not be denied Access to Public facilities especially when a they pay the same fees charged to the Public for such Buckley noted that such facilities Are available to elected officials in most other cities and counties throughout Florida and throughout the United states. A if there was a National policy prohibiting the paid use of Public meeting facilities our political parties would not be Able to hold National conventions a he pointed out. Other political bodies said Buckley do not have such restrictions but instead encourage their representatives to meet in Public View. A we should do everything we can to encourage participation in the american political process. Its the american Way a said Buckley a like baseball and Apple Buckley warned Mem Bers of the Board that excluding paid use of county facilities by elected representatives from either major party would be establishing a dangerous precedent. A such prohibition a said Buckley a could be expected to be employed by such a a isms As communism and the previous statement by some members of the Board that there were numerous and adequate meeting places in Sarasota county was shot Down by Buckley who said a this is just not so a he pointed out it is especially difficult to locate a meeting place Large enough to accommodate 200 people in the South county where a there Are almost none of any Buckley made it a Point to mention that Sarasota county has a majority of republicans Over democrats but that with the increasing numbers of people moving into the Community this balance could very Well change. School millage continued from Page 1 repairs to the majority of county schools. Although there is Little question As to the need a a visit to any South county school is proof of this a the Board May have to answer the question of Why no funds were allowed sooner for repairs. When the school districts budget was drawn up Little if any monies were set aside for school repairs. And As for roof leaks Venice Junior High school is but one school that has cried for years and years for re roofing funds before the school Board finally granted the request. Before the voters go to the polls Many believe the Board owes them some sort of explanation. Sizeable population shifts from Northern and Eastern states to Southern and Western areas Are also expected to be illustrated by the census and the Impact of the a baby Boom after world War ii will continue to be tracked. A this figure is one third higher than the the 1980 census is such a big Job that 228,600 dozen Lead pencils Are needed for the clerical operations a the equivalent of one Pencil 345 Miles Long. And 29 percent the National previous year higher than its interesting to note that of All the Index crimes cleared or solved by the police 63 percent were cleared by the arrest of juveniles. Pendleton says neither the local Lions or Lions International Are in any Way connected with the Jawbreaker dispensers and As far As he knows the entire proceeds Are going into the pockets of the men perpetrating the hoax. Sam Pinkerton March 4, 1980 v no radar no charts get to a Safe Harbor Quot v Well its official now the administration and the 5 Congress say inflation has gotten out of hand and we must 5do something about it. Normally this two years late and a a i Many billions of printed dollars Short pronouncement would a i encourage us because by the time a politician becomes a aware of a problem the problem is almost ancient history. It s different this time. While Congress talks budget cuts and the administration works on its inflation Battle plan some a Hopes have been fuelled that real fiscal conservatism will evolve but we hold out no such Hopes. For a politician talk a comes easy but cutting budgets does t come at All. Also we a doubt that president Carter will have the courage to do is anything that in t simply cosmetic while ted Kennedy is on 2 his heels. A it our guess is that the real Hammer will be swung by the 3 Federal Reserve As it usually is As they done to have to worry a about . That Means the fed will Start playing a hardball and quit pretending that it has tightened up. 2 possible Steps Are increases in Federal fund rates the is discount rate Reserve requirements and Stock margin is requirements. Our economic expansion is almost six years 3 old and showing lots of signs of age. Real monetary restraint 3 would Start a recession fast reduce the consensus 2 expectation for corporate earnings and probably push is stocks lower. If the fed continues to pretend the Stock 5 Market could stay in a trading Range but our inflation cancer a would grow even More terminal. Credit controls May be coming and that Prospect apparently excites the Bond Market. However with the 2 automobile and housing industries already about closed Down and most of american Industry living off Bank Loans we see nothing More than minor adjustments. Now if a a i Kennedy drops out we would not be surprised to see a a president Carter do an about face and request wage and a Price controls that magical inflation killer which is waiting 2 for its first Success. We believe there is another attractive a a a buying Opportunity out there but when you Are in a a unchartered economic Waters and your radar in t working. A i it s Wise to get to a Safe Harbor or at least drop Anchor to avoid getting sunk by some unforeseen obstacle. The action a a a of the Market itself says More Selling and More despair Are cd needed to Ogain give us an attractive risk reword ratio for most Stock.
