Fire engine upgrade eyed as city presses capital plan
Deming reports the fire department faces two aging engines and a costly upgrade. A new engine with a 12 to 18 month delivery would cost about 58 thousand and be funded from next year’s budget under a five year capital improvement plan. The current 18 year old first engine needs 30 thousand in brakes to meet state standards. The old tanker is retired but kept for waterless sites. it will run to scenes at non emergency speed. The new unit should raise the insurance rating and improve service.
