Barrier island flood insurance rules get council approval
The Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council adopted new criteria to determine which barrier islands stay eligible for federal flood insurance subsidies. Criteria require a maximum of one 200 square foot structure per five acres and vehicle access. undeveloped status begins March 15, 1982 with eligibility cutoffs set for Sept. 30, 1983. The council corrected a misclassification by removing Gasparilla Island from the undeveloped list.
