New Florida law may not affect Storer cable rates in Venice
Florida lawmakers nullified municipal power to regulate cable rates as of Oct 1 1979 except where a city holds an exclusive franchise like Venice. Storer says many cities have exclusivity and Venice’s franchise did not initially include it but was added after a previous rate hike. Venice approved a 50 cent monthly increase for channels including 17 from Atlanta and Madison Square Garden events. No further council actions have occurred.
