Green Butterfly Opens to Support Exceptional Industries
The Green Butterfly thrift shop at 209 and 211 W. Miami Ave opened in May to aid Exceptional Industries. Thirty percent of artcraft items are made by its students. A steering committee led by Peter Ciro includes Paul Seaman Marguerite Shaffer Jack O Neil and George Burkholder. Volunteers staff the shop. donations welcome except worn clothing and heavy furniture. Home pickups available. It recently became a United Parcel Service substation.

The Even Keel Restaurant takes over the Gulf’s 220 West Miami Avenue site in Venice with new owners Mark Fabbri Marilyn Geiger-Fabbri and Ken and Laura Shum. It plans a late June opening featuring Italian cuisine and deli sandwiches.

Calico Corners Reopens Under New Building in Osprey
Calico Corners at 1 N Tamiami Trail in Osprey reopens this week with Peg Chubbuck as manager. The store, once destroyed by fire in June 1981, resumes operation in a rebuilt premises. Frances Clune returns as assistant manager and Sonny Hinton serves as interior designer. The local franchise, along with a Tampa unit, is owned by Sarasota businessman John Faulman.
