Venice area obituaries note local residents' deaths
Ruth J. Serene 78 of Venice died Wednesday at home. A Saltsburg, Pennsylvania native, she moved to the area in 1960 and taught piano for over 30 years. She is survived by her daughter Marylou Meyer and two granddaughters. Memorial services were at Faith Lutheran Church Sarasota with interment in Edgewood Cemetery Saltsburg. Dorothea D. Stillman 74 of Englewood died Saturday at Venice Hospital. Born in Boston, she moved from Medford and Andover, Massachusetts eight years ago. She was a bookkeeper, active in Holiday Mobile Estates activities, and a member of Deborah Heart Assn. and NRTA. Memorials to the American Cancer Society. Interment cremation. no visitation or services. Helen S. Cattanach 63 of Venice died Saturday. Born in West Orange, New Jersey, she moved here 25 years ago from Merrick Long Island. A retired private secretary and Catholic Church of Epiphany member, she was a Florida PTA life member. Survivors include son Charles Cattanach Jr., Venice. Graveside services were held at Gulf Pines Memorial Park. Ewing Funeral Home was in charge.

She is survived by husband John Popp daughter Cynthia Weigel two sisters and four grandchildren. Morris W Leonard 76 Venice died Monday at home. Born in Savannah Ga he moved to Venice eight years ago. A retired U S Government engineer he belonged to Emmanuel Lutheran Church and the Moose Lodge. Services were held at Rawles Venice Chapel with burial at Bonaventure Cemetery Savannah.
