Venice plans new fire station at $447000

Venice moves ahead with a $447000 project for a new 5200 square foot fire station to be built at Grove Avenue and an alley south of the reverse osmosis plant. Construction could begin around December 6 if funding passes, with a possible completion by September 1983.

Shark sightings lure collectors along Venice beaches

Over the weekend shark teeth seekers flocked to Venice beaches while lifeguards kept swimmers out of the water. The sightings subsided by Sunday afternoon and the sharks likely moved to deeper waters.

Sharks spotted near Venice and Nokomis beaches again

Nine months after the last official sighting sharks appeared about 100 feet offshore off Venice Public Beach and Nokomis Beach. Lifeguards reported water clear and sign warnings posted as deputies and marine patrols hunted for the small schools and lone sharks up to five feet long.
