Placida Road bridge reopens to traffic after DOT work
The Oyster Creek Bridge is back in use on Placida Road after December closures for a Department of Transportation reconstruction. DOT plans to replace three bridges on Placida Road and build a San Casa Drive bypass at over 3.7 million dollars, including Bock Creek Bridge near Lemon Bay High School. The Rock Creek project may start October 1 due to deterioration, and bypass work will close the San Casa route to all but local traffic next week for several months.

Venice appoints new code enforcement board members
The Venice Code Enforcement Board, formed by mayoral appointment under the 1980 Florida Legislature act, will meet again in August. Former mayor Harry Case chairs the board with members John Sleasman, Court ney Hawk, Hazen Stevens, George Wayne, and Donald Smith. The panel will hear cases on occupational licensing, fire, building, zoning, sign and other codes, with fines up to 500 dollars and orders that carry the force of law.
