Venice Seeks Federal Grant for East Side Sewer Plant

Venice expects a $90,000 federal grant to help fund a $120,000 sewer treatment facility on the east side. City Manager Dale Rieth says the application will go directly to Atlanta for review and a grant could arrive in early August.

I-75 Laurel Connector to Open Sept 1

The Florida Department of Transportation expects the I-75 Laurel connector to open September 1. Traffic on U.S. 41 will be rerouted beneath the underpass in the following week, with temporary southbound lanes removed and a service road strip left. The Laurel link will connect northbound I-75 traffic with an exit for southbound cars only. Travel from River Road Englewood to Palmetto could drop to about 48 minutes at 55 mph.
