New lifeguards eyed for Caspersen Beach to meet rising crowds
Parks officials expect three new lifeguards at Caspersen Beach, with two to stay on duty full time. Countywide beachgoer counts jumped from 1.2 million in 1981 to nearly 2 million in 1982, driving expanded lifeguard coverage at North Jetty Park and Manasota Beach and a longer beachfront boardwalk system.
