Charlotte County eyes phased North Port shift to Lemon Bay schools
The Charlotte County School Board supports Superintendent James Lawless in negotiating with Sarasota County to phase out North Port students from Lemon Bay High and Middle. The plan targets six years starting with sending North Port sixth graders to Venice Junior High in August and uses Englewood Elementary boundaries for Lemon Bay attendance. Board also backs calendar alignment with Englewood and Sarasota for 1981 82 and authorizes candidate searches for Port Charlotte High School’s new campus. Tony Cichella stresses rapid curriculum and book purchases.
