Do-si-do Area dancers like being squares
Square dancing evolves from barn gatherings to a formal American folk dance with lessons required for beginners. Spencer Yates, a veteran caller, guides groups like Buttons and Bows in Englewood and the Snapperoos in Venice as communities expand their square dance clubs across areas. The hobby draws retirees and locals, with sessions and workshops shaping novices into Mainstream dancers amid a history of diverse European and folk influences.
