Selby Botanical Gardens will offer free admission on Friday August 20 in honor of Sirius the Dog Star. The event invites dog lovers and their families and friends to enjoy the gardens including the waterfall lily pond Bamboo Pavilion shaded gardens bay breezes and the Display Greenhouse and Plant Shop.
The paintings of Julie Holmes are on display at the main office of First National Bank of Venice on South Nokomis Ave. The exhibit is open to the public during regular business hours and will hang through August 20. Holmes, a Venice Gardens resident, is a member of the Venice Area Art League and has studied oil painting since moving to Florida from New Jersey years ago.
Venice Community Center calls artists and craftsmen to register for the 1982 Winter Wonderland Arts and Crafts Festival and the Fiesta In The Park event on Oct 23–24. Registration runs 9 am to 4 pm with booth fees from 25 to 35 dollars, and space is limited.
Florida West Coast Dance Company board announced a touring plan for fall and winter 1982 83 as the dancers reach a peak after three years of collaboration. Betty Seibert noted encouraging reviews from the summer and said the company should reach a wider audience outside of Sarasota. Fundraising ideas were discussed and chairmen appointed by president Avalon Featherstone. The Annual Membership Meeting is set for September 13 at Selby Library to elect several new board members.
A Family Treasure Appraisers Day planned in the Events Room at Kanes Too on U S 41 South Sarasota for Monday Aug 23. Events run 10 am heirloom seminar, noon luncheon at Incredibles Restaurant, 1 pm to 3 pm appraisals for participants. Admission $5 includes all sessions and appraisal. Information 365-7318. Appraisals focus on glassware jewelry (except diamonds) and porcelains.
