Mystery orchid sold at Selby auction draws attention
Smithsonian Institution expert Paul Desantels traveled to Sarasota to accept a 1700 dollar Phragmipedium bessinese lady slipper at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. The plant was one of three auctioned last spring with Stewarts Orchids of Los Angeles and J and L Orchids of Easton, Connecticut as top bidders. The third orchid’s recipient remained a closely guarded secret until now.
