St Mark's Episcopal Church in Venice Traces Early Mission Beginnings
In Advent 1935, Episcopal Church of the Redeemer members began work to establish an Episcopal presence in Venice Florida. The mission formed with 25 attendees on March 1 1936 at West Venice Avenue, with cadets from Kentucky Military Institute aiding. Early history includes multiple worship sites, a move to Riviera Street in 1939, and gradual growth to parish status under Rev. Browne. The current rector is Rev Calvin L Davis.

Wycliffe missionary Matthew Ulrich and his wife Rosemary, with their children, visit Cumberland Road South Venice home during furlough from Central America service. Ulrichs joined Wycliffe in 1957 translating the Mopan Maya Bible in Guatemala and later serving as language personnel director and translation consultant. The family is among about 4 700 Wycliffe members in linguistics literacy and translation across 35 nations.
