Public input sought for manatees in Venice waterways
The Florida DNR plans an October public hearing to gather resident input on manatee presence in Venice canals. Evidence collection included visits by DNR teams in July and interviews at Venice Bay Mobile Home Park as lawmakers require proof before placing speed limit signs. A stillborn manatee calf found in Sorrento Shores canal is noted, with officials warning infant deaths are not rare in manatees.
