City withholds funds for Venice Christmas display
Venice council offered 1000 dollars to the West Venice Avenue decoration committee and a 5000 dollar matching fund but Mrs. Maggi Rupp chairman of the group declined the offer citing unreliable merchant fundraising and tight ordering deadlines. The plan sought to illuminate the thoroughfare from U S 41 to Harbor Drive with lights trees and spotlights expanding to The Esplanade and nearby condo developments in future years.
