Officers spotted two men loitering near Schrode jewelry store on Venice Avenue and the pair fled. Brogan, 18, of Venice and a 17 year old companion were charged with loitering and prowling after being caught in a nearby parking lot and in a car dealership lot.
At the Venice pier a St. Petersburg man found his van damaged and $500 worth of fishing tackle missing after the rear window was broken on Saturday night. Heavy saltwater rods and Penn reels were gone, with $100 in window damage. In a separate burglary on Armada Road, a Venice woman found $10 missing from her purse and several liquor bottles on the floor.
Englewood deputies found a Hertz rental car abandoned behind the Englewood Collision Center on SR 776. The auto rented to B. T. Moss of Dunwoody Georgia had keys in the ignition and a full gas tank with the rental contract on the seat. The Hertz office in Sarasota confirmed a two day rental began April 16.
John Hineen of Gasparilla Estates reported a 15 hp boat motor stolen Friday from his boat at Gasparilla Marina. Charlotte County sheriff's deputies noted the motor valued at $700.
