Dear Mary Haworth could love outlast marriage, asks for guidance
A reader letter questions whether marriage based on companionship and understanding without love can be happier at her age than remaining single. She reflects on past engagements, wartime delays, independence, and long travel, seeking advice on settling down. The response likens her life to a lone wanderer seeking fulfillment and social belonging, suggesting the core issue is relationship with society, not merely expectations.
