Oil on Galveston Island discovery confirmed
On Galveston Island Texas Major F Mot and associates confirmed oil seepage at a farm 12 miles west of Galveston. The crude, lighter than Beaumont oil, burns readily and is suitable as lubricating oil. Holes dug six feet deep yielded oil as a 2 foot wide stream to the gulf with about 400 feet of shoreline exposure. Col J Swartmann of Pennsylvania joined Beaumont experts to inspect and claim a rock crack across the island drives the find.
