Local Rail Accidents Claim Several Teens and a Hobo
A fatal accident occurred near the old Rochester Mill on Monday night when a youth group from Keanaburg, including Hen Andrew, 16, and Marshall May Held, about 16, were shooting snipes. Young Andrews was struck by a 22 caliber shell fired from Wayfelt's gun. The shot pierced his back and he died. Earlier, around ten, after freight 81 passed Bellmont, an unknown man was found beside the Main Street crossing with severe head wounds and died that evening. Identified as Ramee W. Springins of Birdseye, Indiana, he left behind a wife and five children, having likely been attempting to hitch a ride on a freight. The inferences suggest a fatal freight-line accident and a separate shooting incident among youths.
