Oat Improvement Program Yields Highlight Sumner FFA
Thirteen Sumner FFA members entered the 1976 Iowa Quaker Oats Oat Improvement Program. Ten completed projects with yields of 115 bushels per acre or more on five acre plots. Champion Bill Figanbaum produced 136.75 bushels per acre, with Kevin Meyer close at 136.19 and Dan and Mark Miller at 129. Other top finishers include Dianne Scott 125.66, Sharon Scott 123.3, Dan Leitsinger 118.75, Allen and Randy Roder 116.8, and Jeff Reynolds 115.6. David Grasty Tours Europe With American Musical Ambassadors
Greenfield youth David Grasty returned from Europe where he toured with the American Musical Ambassadors, a 167 piece band of top high school musicians. He earned honors including Little All-State Band and Honor Band selections, performed a senior recital, six superior ratings at a state solo contest, and many awards in the high school instrumental program.

Fire kills over 2,400 hogs at Minnesota farm
