The eleventh annual Normal Institute of Bremer county closed last Thursday at noon with 75 at the written examination and 136 enrolled total. Prof W F Cramer spoke on Horace Mann. State Supt Akers lecture was withdrawn for the Republican State Convention. Teachers and local schools across Waverly Sumner and Tripoli opened with new staff. subscriptions and book sales supported county teachers.
The county schools open with thirty-one teachers, including principalship 6 Robinson and Eva Cooke, and Miss Hesse Bennett. Of forty-two teachers, twenty-three serve in graded schools. New certificates cause layoffs for some teachers, while border options appear attractive.
Dr Z Bryant provides medical care as physician and surgeon from his Sumner Iowa residence with office at home.
