Winnie O. Lyon traveled to Waverly Friday to take an examination for a teaching certificate. The note hints a broader local roundup with visits, travel, and small town events, including preparations for future notices and ongoing community life.
Ross Marsh spent Sunday at Wa verly. J. F. Cass went to St. Paul last night. The well still goes down at a depth past 300 feet. C. T. Haskett of the Burg was in town Tuesday. P. C. Merrilatt and Joe Butler are now at Dyersville. Gene Farrand and S. F. Cass were in Dubuque Friday. Miss Nellie Kent returned from Linn county last Thursday. Waterloo has a new cob p give factory which will employ 42 han. Prof. Dickman moved his goods to Fayette Monday and Tuesday.

J H Schwake of Dayton township announces candidacy for the county recorder on the Democratic ticket. Born in the county and raised here, he attended local high schools, served four years as secretary of Little Valley Creamery Co, and despite losing his left arm remains active with a strong right hand. He is well known and qualified for the office.
The Chicago Great Western Railway offers a one fare round trip to Marshalltown with sale dates September 6 and 7. Tickets must be returned by September 9. For details contact Agent Maple Leaf Route.
Bremer County Veterans' Association will hold its annual reunion in Plainfield on Wednesday September 28 1898 at 2 PM Captain Harry H Green of Iowa Falls will deliver an address titled Personal Recollections of Fort Donelson
A notice from A. H. Perryman principal announces a meeting with all Sumner school teachers at the school-house at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 3. The message mentions furnished office rooms, a toilet room with hot and cold water, and steam heat in winter, under E. W. Farrand.

Clara and Emmitt Haag from Sunes visited FM Craine. Miss Clara visited Mrs C Countrymin. Swale family headed to Missouri to visit relatives. Burt Hall visited J M M Craine. wife and child remain locally before westward move.

People include Miss Leta Carpenter teaching in Banks Two and Miss Florence Winegar visiting Independence. Families report relatives abroad and a blue social for pastor’s salary.
