State Auditor blasts Bremer County Auditor over records

The State Auditor Lloyd Smith delivered a critical report on Bremer County Auditor’s office at the Board of Supervisors meeting. He cited slow fund reconciliation, a $1,500 warrant misrecorded as $1,050, lack of a monthly outstanding warrants record, and a missing 20 year old claim register. He noted a new payroll timing change and a late federal tax payment tied to a revised computerized warrant system. The board acknowledged shortcomings but considered them not serious amid broader county administration findings.
