Sumner Champs Club shows a busy 1977 year

Sumner Champs 4 H club with 17 members led by Joel Huebner and Randy Hoehne held projects in sheep dairy swine beer garden rabbits photography and welding. Members participated in Bremer County Fair county presentations day and county judging. August tour and family night featured home visits and a lunch.

Clover Teenerettes 4-H Club Organized in Bremer County

The Clover Teenerettes 4-H Club in Dayton Township Bremer County, organized in the 1940s, reports 18 members this year. Leaders are Mrs. Donald Rader and Linda Pries with meetings the first Monday monthly. Members engage in sewing home improvement and food projects, present at meetings, and participate in community activities like bake sales and Christmas caroling. A quilt block project and a tied quilt for the Bremer County Home are planned, with greenhouse tips and holiday decorating for the county home.

The Bremer County 4 H Leroy Gopherettes celebrate a busy year with three home economics projects per girl and honors in dairy sheep photography creative arts and clothing. They represented Bremer County at the Iowa State Fair in Educational Presentation Senior Division and mark their 21st birthday with a Halloween party and officer elections. Scouts of Sumner Troop 45 will conduct a paper drive Saturday Oct 8 starting at 6 30 am Residents should have waste paper bundled and curb ready by 4 30 am Bundles must be easily handled by scouting age youths and tied with string Only newspapers accepted The Sumner Community Schools board will meet Oct 10 at 8 00 pm in the junior high superintendent’s office

Sumner Stars 4 H Club Reflects Year in Sewing Projects

The Sumner Stars 4 H Club has 17 active members with officers Cheryl Mey president Connie Elliot vice president Kay Woodcock secretary Penny Hoepfer historian Linda Mikel reporter Barb Schwake leader. Members pursued sewing techniques clothing selection and varied projects including pardoning, creative waste, livestock, photography and self determined projects. Educational presentations occurred at each meeting with 16 girls presenting and 14 participating in the Fashion Revue during Presentation Night. Four members spoke in county competition and three joined the county Fashion Revue while all exhibited at the Local Achievement Show and County Fair. Club events included a Halloween party and a Christmas caroling visit to Hillcrest Home.

Sumner Police Dept Monthly Activity Report

According to the Sumner Police Department monthly report, 10 thefts were reported along with one burglary. Gordon H. Garrett, police chief, reports four arrests, 12 vandalism cases and 15 complaints answered. Twenty two traffic citations issued with 16 memos and five parking tickets. Twelve motorists assisted and aid given to 21 other police departments. Police were called to two domestic fights, two dog complaints and found one business door open. Nine messages delivered. three fires and one funeral procession policed.

Bicycle Accident Leaves Teen With Minor Injuries

Susan Mihm, 13, was injured when her bicycle was struck by a car at West Third and Maple Streets. She received treatment at Sumner Community Memorial Hospital and was released with cuts and bruises near her ears. The bicycle was a total loss. The driver, Pat Walter Petratz of Sumner, is being investigated by Sumner police.
