Science teacher Hermanson's article in Iowa Science Journal
Sumner High School teacher Bernard Hermanson had an article published in October 1971 in the Iowa Science Teachers Journal. The piece, based on a 1970 University of Town research paper, argues for student self discovery through problems like paper airplanes and darts to teach aero dynamics and independent thinking. Hermanson believes this method will grow in use as students learn to think rather than memorize.
