The week brought dry cold with light frosts and rainfall little in the state. Spring grains look fair with frost recovery and corn holding its own against cold and cutworms. Replanting increases are expected as planting continues past June 1, boosting acreage. Fall rye blighted by frost is cut for fodder. pastures suffer from lack of rain while hay remains light. The Yankton reservation in South Dakota was reduced and land allocated to white settlers. Sioux City area once a camping ground for Indians. Plymouth Union and other counties were home to native tribes. An 1859 treaty ceded most land to whites. Lake Andes, about 10,000 acres, lies at the center of the new land and could supply the reservation with fish. A future town on the lake shore is envisioned to attract business and visitors.
