A week ago Watenpaugh sold a team of horses for $180. A letter from Alson Congdon of Lebo sends $1.50 for the Gazette 1898. Various locals report sales, moves, and repairs including a wind damage to Hol French's power mill. Notices warn against coughs and tout One Minute Cough Cure.
The county supervisors record four yearly meetings and an extra session after the annual election to count votes. On March 7 they met with the county auditor for the third time this year. The court sentenced Wm. Hummer to six months in the penitentiary for wholesale chicken and turkey stealing and ordered child support of $2.50 weekly. A resolution thanked the retiring superintendent of the poor farm for dinners and service. Financial entries note February school supervision pay of $96.00 to F. P. Wagemann and numerous petty disbursements for goods, coal, wood, and services.
Advertisement claims thousands of infant deaths from membranous croup yearly and asserts Fol ey's Honey and Tar could have saved every child if given promptly. Promotes Farrand bros. & Patterson as distributors.
Thursday night at the town hall the Citizens Union caucus published a municipal ticket with D. R. Littell for mayor and other officials. A parallel People party caucus announced a rival slate headed by I. M. West for mayor and J. Carpenter as assessor, both claiming to field capable candidates.
An old advertisement claims Weeks Laxative Quinine Tablets cure colds by removing the body's poison via ipecac and quinine plus cascara laxative. A lengthy advertisement lists numerous Sumner properties for sale including 4 acres with a house and fruit trees, two lots with a dwelling, three lots with a nearly new house, seven and forty acre parcels, business lots on Main and in Westcott’s Add, and several farms with terms noted. Also mentions local news items and health ads.
Beating the Klondike in value, Thomas of Marysville Texas says Dr King s New Discovery cured his consumption after years of suffering hemorrhages. He claims gold pales beside the remedy and would buy at one hundred dollars a bottle. Asthma bronchitis hoarseness and all throat lung affections also cured. A Butler county farmer sold 101 head of two year old steers for 36000 dollars. We carried the March board proceedings over to this week due to space constraints, awaiting payment for their publication.

P. P. Wimmelrich, a Mason City clothing dealer, was reported last week with liabilities totaling 210,000. The notice urges readers to request a free sample of Dr. King's New Life Pills from H. E. Bucklin & Co. in Chicago, claiming benefits for constipation, sick headache, malaria, and liver troubles, with a 35 cent price per box and assurances of vegetable purity.
