Pearl Mohlis wins district FFA Creed gold in Iowa
Pearl Mohlis 15 daughter of Donald and Mrs Mohlis Sumner wins first place gold emblem in sub district FFA Creed Speaking Contest at Charles City on March 5 advancing to district at West Union March 12. Fellow Greenhand Kevin Bergman Roy Christopherson Pat Duffy Rick Moser Tom Thurm Tim Pleggenkuhle and Joel Huebner win silver with Freshman Conduct of Meetings team. Parliamentary Procedure team led by Monte Craun Gordon Buchholz Kris Petersen Dan Leitsinger and Sharon Scott win bronze. Additional golds awarded to Randy Hahne and Larry Nilges in Greenhand FFA Quiz. Dan Gamez manager of the Auto-Farm Store was elected president of the Sumner Commercial Club for 1977 succeeding Dean Jacobson. New officers include Jim Kennedy as vice president Glenn Wiebke as treasurer and Phil Kuepker re-elected secretary. Other board members Cal Harms Randy Maifeld and LaVere Wenthe were named. A quarterly meeting is set for Mon Mar 21 at City Hall second floor assembly room.

Funeral rites for Hawkeye area man Mikael Franks
Mikael Franks 87, a longtime Hawkeye area farmer, died Monday night at Scholtz Memorial Hospital Waterloo. Funeral services today at 1 30 pm at United Methodist Hawkeye with Rev Edward Cass officiating Interment Grandview Cemetery Fayette. Survivors include five sons one daughter three sisters a brother 26 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
