The northwest corner of the Sumner Municipal Light Plant Building has been razed as the construction program continues toward installing a new engine. The addition will span the entire front and extend west beyond the current structure, with weather setbacks noted. Stolz Construction Co. of New Hampton serves as general contractor.
In Fredericksburg and West Union a long list of residents shared meals visited kin and friends over the weekend. Highlights include Capt. Gary Gitch arriving from Vietnam on R and R to spend time with family before returning to duty, and birthdays celebrated for Mr and Mrs Mirs Mr and Mrs Rick Sowers and David Huebner. Also mentions hospital stays, vacations, neighborhood gatherings, and upcoming community displays March 13 at Maynard Hall.
Two Sumner couples, Mr and Mrs Jerry Sabus and Mr and Mrs Coral Schwarzen stein, returned Monday from a six day J I Case Company sponsored trip to Martinique in the French West Indies. They stayed at the Martinique Hilton in Fort de France and toured the island including Mount Pele and Grand Arize.
After the banquet, talks were given by Bob Arthur of Des Moines the Iowa Project Manager, Ben Arnold of Omaha Nebraska the Omaha Branch manager, and Don Blasius of Racine Wisconsin the vice president of the Agricultural division. Grapefruit and French pastries accompanied the event, reflecting regional tastes.
Jerry Sabus received recognition as one of the top 20 District Managers in North America for J. I. Case Company. The event highlighted his leadership at Shop Sumner stores and noted ongoing performance in a busy sales network.
