United Brethren Church History in Sumner Area
The United Brethren denomination has deep roots in Sumner with early records of the Wilson Grove Circuit dating to 1859. By 1894 they built a church, added a parsonage, and later expanded with a furnace and new foundations, culminating in a 2510 church project funded by local members and Bishop Kephart, with later mergers shaping Sumner churches into the United Methodist Church under Rev. Robert MacCanon.
