Fred Backus a Great Western Railway brakeman was killed at Stanley yesterday morning just before 9. He had left Oelwein on No 81 local at 8 and was struck between cars while a timber car was being coupled. The timber overhung the flat car and struck his head instantly. He was brought to Oelwein in the caboose and taken to Millard Banks undertaking rooms.
