Heavy rains soak Sumner area causing millage of damage
Heavy rains Saturday night dumped 2.5 to 3 inches in just over an hour near Sumner causing flooded streets and two feet of water in places along East First Street. The storm spared major wind damage but damaged crops, killed about 75 turkeys at Morgan Turkey Farm, and overwhelmed the sewer system requiring pumps to clear sanitary mains into storm sewers. Weather reports note widespread thunderstorm activity, hail, and rare funnels across Iowa with additional storm damage in Cedar Falls and Waterloo.
