Dairymen vote on check-off plan in Iowa referendum
Iowa dairymen will vote by mail Jan 23 to Feb 7 on a proposed two cent check-off per hundred pounds of milk during ten months with a four cent rate for May and June. If passed, the voluntary 2¢ program would end. the Iowa Dairy Industry Commission would oversee funds and set annual rates. Ballots were mailed by the Iowa Department of Agriculture to eligible producers.

Plan long distance line maintenance this weekend
Routine maintenance on long distance circuits between here and New Hampton by United Telephone of Iowa may curtail service for Sumner customers. Over the weekend of Jan 31 half of the long distance circuits will be taken out of service during work. Some busy signals possible due to reduced circuits. Weather may postpone the work.
