The Rev V W Stoffregen was installed as pastor of the American Lutheran Church of Jesup at an all morning service on January 16 with Rev Alvan Nelson of Des Moines presiding. Stoffregen, born April 2 1933 in Westgate, is a Wartburg College and Wartburg Seminary graduate who has served multiple congregations in Canada and the United States and since 1969 leads Burr Oak and Hesper Lutheran churches. He and his wife Valerie Biermann have five children ValRae Ann Kimberlee Emm Noel Leone Kori Joshua and Staci Lynn.
The Annual Meeting of St Peter Lutheran Church Richfield was held Sunday afternoon January 9 with 34 voting members present. Census shows December 31 1971 baptized 295, confirmed 211, joining 118. Officers elected include I M Westendorf chair Richard Niewoehner secretary Ralph Pleggenkuhle treasurer. Westendorf to delegate Iowa District Convention with Duane Bahe as alternate. Rev John Block pastor since July 18 1971.
Bremer County Agricultural Extension Education Fund shows 1971 receipts totaling 37162.93 with starting balance 10215.76 and multiple sources including county funds, bank interest, and local charges. Disbursements list salaries for six staff, employer taxes and retirement, travel, communications, office supplies, equipment maintenance, project activity expenses, and room rents totaling 37162.93.
The January 18 1972 Sumner City Council meeting chaired by Mayor Legh reviewed wage adjustments approving a 1.77 per hour raise and a 40 monthly increase for city employees. Officials discussed mileage allowances and multiple vendor contracts including insurance, legal notices and a vehicle meter purchase plan. They also named delegates to the Bremer County Crime Commission and set a special meeting with engineers to discuss a northeast drainage project.

St. Paul’s United Church of Christ shares Holy Worship at 9 a m and Sunday School with a Ladies Fellowship on Feb. 10.
