Supervisors finished canvassing the mulct petition and report 2552 actual signers who voted on Nov 2 1897. With 8827 total votes cast, 64 names above the legal requirement ensure saloons stay open in the county. Signers by precinct shown. Jackson and Polk fall short. West Union reports withdrawals lowering signers below 65 percent. wets and drys react.

The Maple Leaf-Santa Fe Through Car offers a weekly Tuesday departure from Minneapolis via Chicago Great Western to Los Angeles with overnight comfort features and two large toilet rooms. Passengers can travel non stop from Minneapolis to Kansas City with lowest return rates valid for ninety days. Through service also available eastward from Los Angeles to Minneapolis.
Pittsburg Dispatch outlines a chaotic 1898 calendar with six eclipses two visible to North America January 7 and December 27, lists holidays and weekdays, notes Easter and Palm Sunday dates, and mentions presidential and local civic timing. It also cites humorous ads and public notices, including medical cures and household products, alongside discussions of public funds and facilities.
