Tramps Reported in County Asylum Policy Savings
Marshal Chapman told the Board of Supervisors that from April 1 1806 to July 1 1807 seven tramps were in custody and 95 loaves of bread dispensed. The tramp house reduced roaming and potential crimes, saving the county about 2000 dollars. Only a few cases involved arrests for larceny or other crimes. fees and court costs were minimal. The report urges other towns to adopt the tramp-house approach to curb expenses. An unrelated ad for Electric Bitters claims kidney relief with a dotted price and local drugstore reference.
