Three-Vehicle Crash Near Fredericksburg Injures Three
A three-vehicle wreck two miles west of Fredericksburg on Wednesday Aug 4 at 5 p.m. involved a straight truck from Bellwood Illinois driven by Edward Smith and an eastbound tractor trailer from McGregor Iowa driven by Larry Engen. The collision caused flames, a damaged power pole, ten damaged caskets, and led to three men transported to area hospitals with varying injuries. Smith faced charges of failure to yield.

Volunteers honored for service across Hawkeye Valley area
About 65 volunteers received recognition at a Tripoli program for senior information services begun in 1974. Honorees included Mayre Kane Sumner Elda Sassman Readlyn Minnie Nuss Frederika and Alma Chase Fairbank. Also noted at Hickory Grove Club was Milton Leech Westgate named Master Genetic Engineer for 1975 by American Breeders Service for support of artificial insemination. Nine area students made the UNI spring dean’s list including Patricia Freyholtz Debra Hyde Terri Snyder Julie Yorman Summer Linda Byerly Maynard James Fritz Jayne Traeger Connie Matthias Rebecca Volker. An accident in Chickasaw County was investigated by the sheriff.
