Simplified Smoot tax plan gains converts in Washington
The simplified Smoot taxation plan gains converts as manufacturers and farmers inquire about its one time 3 percent sales tax on finished goods. Advocates argue it replaces the complex current system with a single tax on articles ready for sale, exempting most farmers and many small producers. The plan envisions repealing most federal taxes except income, estate, tobacco and liquor taxes, and tariff duties, with exemptions for exports and small producers.
