Fred Morberry of Robinson is charged with forging checks in a local case. Police allege he issued fraudulent instruments and caused financial loss to victims in the area. Morberry awaits trial after arrest and booking by authorities.
Fred Morberry 26 son of Louis Morberry a retired trader of Robinson Illinois was arrested at his home and brought to this city on forgery charges. He signed bond of 1000 dollars with his father and W H McGrew as sureties. Identified by A Palps a Robinson meat dealer victim the alleged forgery involved twenty to fifty plus checks drawn on Sullivan State Bank payable to J B Miller and titled Per G Wible. Victims included A Ralph E E Muehler Ruddell Bros Harlan P Ruddell and Paul Daugherty among others.
John K. Gowdy then Republican state chairman and Will H. Hays now leader held a conference at Uncle Jack's Rushville home to review campaign strategy from a Republican view. Gowdy, famed in the McKinley Bryan era, advised and shared deep political insight as Indiana remained a pivotal storm center in a hard fought race.
It is the duty of every voter to register on Monday October 9. Those who do not register by that date cannot vote in the November election.
City Health Officer Dr. T W Kennedy confirms a fourth scarlet fever case, Miss Sarah Reed thirteen, confined at home on North Bates Street with quarantine for her family and three other households in the Falconberry Combs and Barrow families. Epidemic believed under control with precautions in place.
The home of Peter Ratliff at Jackson Hill No 4 was totally destroyed by fire last Wednesday. Nothing was saved and the Ratliff family had only the clothing they wore. Money kept in the house was burned and there was no insurance.
A district meeting of the 1. C. O. F. Encampment will be held in this city on Wednesday October 25. Degrees will be conferred on Morrison Encampment New Lebanon Patriarchal New Lebanon Golden Rule Navillus Sullivan.
Voters in Sullivan County are warned to register on October 9 to be eligible for the November 7 election. The notice lists multiple precinct locations in townships including Hymera, Curry, Shelburn, Sullivan, Turman, Hamilton, Cass, Jefferson, Gill, and others, stressing voting only in one's proper precinct. It cautions that failure to register or registering in the wrong precinct will bar voting on election day.
The regular meeting of the Par ents and Teachers Association of Turman township will be held in the high school building at Graysville on Friday Oct 6 at 8 00 o clock. The program includes invocations piano solos duets and a debate on whether country boys have advantages over city boys with named participants and performers.
Mary Woolum files in circuit court for 2000 dollars against John Nesbit a Jackson township saloonist and his bonding company Massachusetts Bonding Insurance. The suit alleges her husband suffered injuries after being intoxicated by liquor sold by Nesbit and claims violations of liquor license provisions from selling to an intoxicated person.
John Lewis of Shelburn pleaded guilty before Judge Bridwell in circuit court. He was fined fifty dollars and sentenced to the penal farm for thirty days for illegal sale of liquor.
Relatives of Mr and Mrs Clyde Shields held a Sunday gathering at their Graysville area home on October 1. A large lawn feast honored Mrs James Baker and her daughter Clara of Kansas City Kansas. Baker is the widow of James Baker who died in a railroad wreck in 1876. Attendees included Mrs T K Cushman, Mrs William Medsker and many Cushman families plus other local residents.
Merom hears Congressman Cullop address a large crowd of women Republicans and Democrats. Speakers mock Woodrow Wilson and tariff policy while criticizing recent Mexican incidents and post office gains as the crowd mocks national affairs.
A well known railroad man Parrott was murdered in Kansas City by suspected robbers. Police investigation underway as community mourns the loss of a local figure.
The funeral of William E. Parrott, 46, commercial agent for the Pennsylvania lines at Kansas City, was held in Terre Haute with Elks and Catholic rites. He was found severely beaten, with skull fractures, after a Friday assault near a bath house. Kansas City coroner cites homicide as the probable verdict. His widow, siblings, and several relatives survive. The body arrived by special car and was transported to Center Ridge Cemetery after ceremonies at the Elks lodge and St. Stephens Church.
During a severe storm last Wednesday evening a bolt of lightning struck a house occupied by Clint Bicknell and family and owned by C. E. Wilkey. The flue was demolished and furniture and rugs were damaged by soot from the fire.
Mr and Mrs P A Bogue announce the engagement of their daughter Marion Bogue to Aviiam Clarence Borders of this city.
